Effectrode - Photo-Compressor

PC-2A모델은 전설의 LA-2A studio compressor를 기본으로 드디어 스톰박스 모델로 제작되었습니다.
VCA 칩이나 OPAMP들이 하나도 없이 시그널은 100% 아날로그 방식으로 Hand Selected photo-cell,polyester coupling capacitors, precision resistors (with silver/palladium contacts)들을 사용하였고 또한 NOS 튜브를 사용되었고 특수 금도금 서킷보드에 정밀하게 제작되었습니다. 어쿠스틱기타로는 피에죠픽업가도 궁합이 좋습니다.

본사의 tube technology로 부터 페달 장착되어있는 튜브는 엄격한 규격을 충족하고 있는데요 심한충격 조건에서도 긴수명을 위해 설계되었습니다.  이는 진동 20,000G와 고온에서도 충분히 견딜 수 있습니다.  트루바이패스 입니다.

Features

  • All Tube: 100% pure analog vacuum tube audio path operating at amp plate voltages ensures the PC-2A compressor has huge headroom and very quiet, natural sound reproduction. The result is a compressor that performs exceptionally well with electric, active bass, 12-string and acoustic guitars.
  • Limit/Compress Switch: Select between two completely different compression curves. ‘Compress’ mode is a light, subtle compression that can be used to enhance tone and even out string dynamics – the tube and photo-cell yields an extremely natural sounding compression. ‘Limit’ mode is heavier for a punchier, ‘squished’ country tone.
  • Internal Attack control: To allow bass players with high output/active pick-ups to adjust the compression response characterstic to tailor it to their needs.
  • True Bypass Switching: With Effectrode’s unique ‘anti-pop’ or ‘thump’ footswitching circuitry utilising sealed, gold-contact relay to eliminate the possibility of dirty contacts degrading the sound and minimial internal audio path.
  • ‘Proper’ side-chain: A-weighted pre-emphasis in the side-chain replicates the response of the human ear and allows for heavy compression without the excessive ‘pumping’ normally associated with compressors processing low-frequency material, for much more natural and musical effect.
  • Photo-optical gain control: The gain control attenuator is based on a resistive photocell which ensures the absolute minimum of distortion is introduced (much lower than V.C.A. and F.E.T. designs). Additionally, the natural decay characteristic of the photocell produces a smooth release characteristic which always sounds pleasing and natural to the ear.
  • Works as a tube boost pedal!: The gain is about 15dBu maximum with the ‘Peak Reduction’ knob fully anticlockwise and the ‘Gain’ knob fully clockwise. This is enough to push a Tweed or Deluxe amp into breakup and overdrive territory.
  • Fitted with NOS gilded grid tube: The gold content is 5.4 mg in grids of both triodes. Military quality, “OTK” and military rhombus signed on the body – manufactured by MELZ plant (Moscow city, Soviet Union).
  • Includes 12V Wall-wart Power Supply: High quality low-noise switched mode 12VDC at 1.5A wall-wart compatible with all our pedals. Accepts 100V to 240VAC mains input and comes with different mains outlet adaptor plugs, so there is always a plug that fits the country that you are playing in.

Electric Guitar

Shine On You Crazy Diamond (David Gilmour) – Mild compression with moderate gain and peak reduction settings. A mild compression tightens up clean tones and overdrives sound more focused and sustained. Thanks to Bjorn Riss of Gilmourish for recording this sound sample.

Sultans of Swing (Mark Knopfler) – Using light compression here to enhance and add sustain to a stock Strat. This sample was recorded direct using the the PC-2A straight into an Edirol UA-25 sound capture device. Reverb and cab sim. were added post recording using EpicVerb and Lecab VST plugins. Backing rhythm guitar, drums and bass by Dan Steenson.

Once Upon a Time in the West (Mark Knopfler) – Using subtle and light compression here to fatten and smooth out my Strat. Backing rhythm guitar is Strat with Phaseomatic on it.

Blues breakup/drive – Using the PC-2A tube compressor with ‘Peak Reduction’ knob set to zero so that the pedal works as boost to push a Fender Tweed further into drive. The PC-2A is in true bypass for the first 4 bars then I kick it in for some additional grit and drive.

Jangly Tones – Using subtle and light compression here to add some life and warmth to my Strat. This track was recorded using a stock Strat, Fender Tweed and a Palmer PDI-09 DI box.

Sex Machine (J. Brown) – Fire Bottle tube boost and PC-2A compressor together. This cool James Brown groove was recorded by Dan Steenson of Majika

Every Breath You Take (Andy Summers) – Andy Summers is an innovative composer and one of my all time favorite guitarists. Here I’m using the PC-2A Compressor in ‘Limit’ mode and the Blackbird tube preamp to add a little harmonic richness and warmth to ‘Every Breath You Take’ (no speaker emulation was used). Some chorus and delay were added post recording using Kjaerhus Audio VST plug-ins.

Message in a Bottle (Andy Summers) – Using ‘Limiter’ mode to create a heavier compression. The guitar was recorded direct into soundcard – the PC-2A is so forgiving, warm and musical that I didn’t see the need to use speaker emulation or run the guitar signal through an amp. A little chorus and reverb were added post recording.

Fingerstyle (electric) – Thanks to Phil Gooch for making this beautiful sound sample.

Rhiannon (Lindsey Buckingham) – PC-2A in ‘Limit’ mode with ‘Peak Reduction’ knob set at 1 o’clock. The guitar is recorded direct to soundcard with no speaker emulator, preamp or signal conditioning. A little reverb was added post recording.

Binson Echorec tone enhancement – Here I’m using the PC-2A comp as a tone enhancer by placing it before the input of a Binson Evo Special – a transistorised model designed by Marcello Patruno. The first four measures are with the PC-2A in bypass and the effect on the tone is very obvious when the pedal is engaged as it opens out the sound to let it breathe making a huge improvement on dynamics and clarity. Just imagine what this little tube compressor can do for your core guitar tone – it even makes tube amps sounds better!

Red Barchetta (Alex Lifeson) – Using medium compression to post Tube Drive (distortion) to smooth and level out the sound.


Rickenbacker Twelve String

Four Twelve Strings – Just having fun here at layering up tracks to create a lush wall of 12 string guitars – who needs keyboards, eh!?

Turn, Turn, Turn (Roger McGuinn) – Rickenbacker 330 12-string recorded direct via the PC-2A tube compressor pedal. This is the same process that was used to record Roger McGuinn’s guitar for many of the original Byrds tracks – Rickenbacker 12-string direct onto tape via a Teletronix LA-2A tube compressor. The story goes that the sound engineer was concerned with overload damaging his monitor speakers so he insisted that guitars were run through a compressor during recording to limit any signal peaks – McGuinn loved the sustaining tone of the Rickenbacker through the LA-2A and the Byrds sound was born!

Mr Tambourine Man (Roger McGuinn) – Rickenbacker 330 12-string recorded direct via the PC-2A tube compressor pedal.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Star (Roger McGuinn) – Three Rickenbacker 330 12-strings! Recorded direct via the PC-2A tube compressor pedal. I added some reverb post recording using Kjaerhus Audio VST Classic Reverb plugin. Backing bass guitar also uses the PC-2A to add some subtle leveling and tone enhancement.
